INSIDE EVERY HUMAN

THERE IS A DEEP DESIRE “TO EXPRESS” TO BE SEEN, HEARD, FELT AND UNDERSTOOD

The expansive canvas of The Expressive Arts provides a powerful framework for exploring and integrating plant medicine experiences.

When words alone are not sufficient to decode and unscramble the full spectrum of a psychedelic experience, the expressive arts (EXA) offer us another way forward.

We can use the arts to learn new ways of metabolizing the things that happened to us. Art can be defined as being interchangeable with beauty and our “art” can help us hold things that may feel too big or painful for us to bear alone. The expressive arts framework offers a safe, inclusive and inviting to everyone regardless of artistic ability.

By engaging in play and the arts, we are taken into the world of the imagination, where possibilities can be seen that are not evident in our daily lives. We can find resources that we did not know we had and possible solutions that were previously hidden from us.

WHY WE LOVE THE EXPRESSIVE ARTS FOR INTEGRATING PLANT MEDICINE EXPERIENCES

  • Self-Trust & Reliance: Our plant allies often want to teach us to trust ourselves and rely on cultivating our own power.  In the EXA approach, the therapist is referred to as the “companion” and the client is the “expert” since you know your own life best.

  • Empowering & Trauma Informed: EXA offers a resource-based, solution-focused approach. Instead of focusing on deficiencies and dwelling on problems you will learn how to access the wisdom and resources already inside you. You are always leading the process in a way that feels “safe enough” while inviting in more nourishment and freedom.

  • Focus Is On Expression Through Our Senses: We recognize that each human being has unique ways of expressing themselves and therefore we use a multi-modal approach for working with all of the arts including expression through visual images, voice/sound, somatic, movement, drama as well as written words, poetry and nature-based approaches to enter the liminal spaces of our mind, body and spirit.

  • Subconscious Illumination: Plant teachers use all of the information in our psyche to draw on images, symbols, and conscious and unconscious memories to communicate with us. Similarly, in EXA, we use creative ways to de-centre into the world of the imagination where we can access our wisdom in ways that bypass the limitations of the rational mind.

  • No Artisitic Training Required: A welcoming and inclusive approach for everyone even if you don’t identify as a creative or an artist. This is important because we use a “low skill/high sensitivity approach” that is built on the understanding that everyone can be sensitized to the arts as a means of expression regardless of talent or skill level.

  • We Work in a Safe & Relational Way: We recognize that it is in relationships that many of our woundings occurred and the original ruptures and disconnection took place. When we work in a relational way, we get to repair those ruptures by being in relationship with each other, cultivating empathy, safety and experiencing new connections with self and others.

PLANT MEDICINE INTEGRATION
8 Week Series on Wed, starting Jan 15, 2025
6:30 PM to 8:30 PM EST

Join us for an 8-week adventure as we dive deep into the world of expressive arts therapy and how it can support our plant medicine journeys. Whether you are new to working with plant medicines or a seasoned traveller, the arts invite us to work in partnership with the creative powers of our intuition and imagination to tap into new resources that we may not yet have had access to.

This way of working recognizes the deep longing and desire that is inside of us to express authentically who we are and for many of us, this part of us that holds the magic of creativity and other resources may have not had a place in our life. You don’t have to be an artist or even consider yourself creative to participate. This is the beauty of this approach where our willingness to be sensitized to the arts is simply enough.
